It Might Have Been

“Of all sad words of mouth or pen, the saddest are these: it might have been.” – John Greenleaf Whittier

It is easy to choose the familiar road, to continue along as usual without choosing to take the harder road despite what it may lead to. We put things off, giving the excuse of time, money, or I’ll begin tomorrow. However, on the final day of your life when you look back along the journey that was your life, will you wonder, what might have been if? Allow this Inspirational quote and words to motivate you to live each day to the fullest.

Daily Habits

“I fear not the man who has practised 10,000 kicks, but I do fear the man who has practised one kick 10,000 times.” – Bruce Lee

We all know that practice makes perfect. But what type of practice? How often do we practice? The key to mastering a skill is firstly creating a DAILY habit to practice the skill, and to be patient and persistent with this habit for LIFE. There is no point in mindless practice either, we must be fully present at the time we are learning our skill otherwise the practice is useless. Get inspired with this inspirational quote by Bruce Lee and begin a new habit today.

Choose Kindness

“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” -Plato

There is a story about a young woman on a train getting very frustrated at two misbehaving children causing chaos. The father was seated and ignoring the children which was even more infuriating. Eventually the young woman addressed the father, and asked him to control his children. The father looked up, seemingly noticing his infants for the first time and said: I’m sorry, we just came from the hospital where their mother died and I don’t know what to do.

We have no idea what anyone is going through on any particular day, all we can do is be kind and compassionate especially when faced with someone who is rude or mean. Allow this inspirational quote to invoke patience and understanding next time you are faced with a difficult situation.

Comparison

“The reason why we struggle with insecurity is because we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.” – Stephen Furtick

There are days where I have to switch off all my social media, because I find myself comparing my life in an unhealthy way to what I am seeing online. I have to stop my mind for a moment and remember how carefully I construct my own online image. Just as Stephen Furtick suggests; I am only showing a highlight reel. I am not uploading images of me crying, feeling sad, or sitting alone watching the Simpsons (which is my happy place by the way). No one is, there is only an array of gorgeous travel photos, carefully edited selfies and good times.

We need to avoid comparing ourselves to what we see online, and allowing that to affect our mood negatively. We cannot control what other people post, we can only control our attitude towards it. Love What You Do

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” – Steve Jobs

Have you ever wondered how you got to where you are now? What steps did you take to get to the place you are in your career? Were they intentional? Or did you just go with the flow and all of a sudden you’ve realised, actually, I don’t like my job, I don’t want to spend the rest of my life doing this!

We spend an average of 40 hours a week at work, about 2000 hours a year. That’s a lot of time doing ANYTHING. The concept of working to live, as opposed to living to work is nice, but realistically, we spend so much time at work, it is vital we enjoy what we do. Allow Steve Job’s inspirational words to motivate you to chase your true dreams and begin living the life you want.
