What are superfoods? The term superfoods refers to specific foods that have health promoting properties. The word itself is made up by the media, to create a buzz about a few particular foods that stand out as they have huge physiological benefits. No harm done in creating this word, as it has alerted more people to how important nutrition is to health. Let’s check out some of our favorite superfoods:

Cacao

Cacao is the main ingredient found in raw chocolate. The higher the percentage on your choice of dark chocolate, the higher the cacao in it.

Cacao is actually the nut found in the fruit of an Amazonian tree!

Consuming cacao can increase your life span and promote DNA recovery (often caused by poor diet choices or other toxins in our environment).

Bring on the chocolate!

Goji Berries

Goji berries are a powerful antioxidant and have been used in Chinese medicine for over 6000 years!

They are an excellent source of many essential vitamins including vitamins A, C and E. As well as containing Niacin, potassium and Iron which are all important in maintaining our health.

Enjoy the benefits of these berries by adding them to your diet either fresh, dried or juiced!

Bee Products

In case you didn’t know, honey is NOT the only product that bees produce. Honey (particularly Manuka Honey) is very good for you but try adding other products to your diet too.

Unless you’re allergic or advises against bee products by a health care professional, bee pollen, Royal jelly, propolis and the obvious honey are superfoods that can be added to your diet.

These foods have antibiotic, anti inflammatory, anti diarrheic and antioxidant properties

Let’s keep saving the bees, not just for the Mother Earth, but for our own Health benefits.

Seaweed

You may already consume seaweed wrapped around your favorite sushi roll. But why not add it to a salad, soup or stew?

High in Omega 3, fiber and folate, these sea vegetables are beneficial for many reasons including being Attributed to heart health and DNA repair.

Bring on the California Roll!

Raw Hemp Seeds

If you’re a vegan or vegetarian, raw hemp seeds are an incredible source of plant- based protein. The USDA found that 30% of their weight is protein. That is significantly higher than other popular seeds such as flax or chia.

If you’re looking to increase your protein intake: be sure to add raw hemp seeds to your diet.

Hemp seeds also contain vitamin E, Zinc, Magnesium and essential Omega acids in an optimal ratio.

And if you’ve got itchy skin or skin inflammation, try dietary hemp seed oil for some relief! Phew!
