Welcome back to day 5 of Healthy Mind Power Week. A one week series each month to inspire you. This month we are focusing on Self Care. You can start from Day 1 here.
“Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.”
– Edward Stanley
Today I would like to focus on the importance of diet and exercise to nourish your body as part of your self care routine.
This quote by Edward Stanley sums it up so simply for us: if you don’t find time to nourish your body now, then you will be forced to find the time eventually.
Think for a moment how time consuming any form of illness or disease is? As a small example: how many days do you lose at work if you have the flu? 2-3 maybe. What if you were suffering with IBS? You could lose 2-3 days a month. Consider if you were battling a severe illness that required constant medical attention. Weeks, months and possibly years could be affected.
The Challenge
Today I challenge you to schedule 3 days per week for exercise. Even if it’s just a 15 minute brisk walk. If you really feel you cannot give up the work time, then join a gym and respond to emails whilst walking on a treadmill or cycling on a bike. Ideally, you allocate this as self care time to nourish your body and you take a break from work for the fitness time.
I also challenge you to question one major thing in your diet. Check out this list of C.R.A.P foods, it lists the 4 big no- no’s in terms of nutrition. If you are constantly consuming one of these items, make a mindful effort to reduce the intake of it or eliminate it completely. If you want to eliminate all, good for you! But beware of changing too much too quickly as it is harder to stick to multiple new habits. Make a note to eliminate a second C.R.A.P food next month.
